Soapstone
Soapstone is
a dense stone closely related to talc and green marble. When mined
it is blue or grey. It darkens with age and oiling to a rich, charcoal
grey or dark green. For hundreds of years soapstone has been used
in industry and in luxury homes for counter tops, sinks and fireplaces.
As is true with all luxury stones, the beauty of soapstone certainly
accounts for muchof its popularity. Soapstone, however, holds some
advantages over both marble and granite.
All three
luxury stones claim a healthy resistance to water, chemicals, and
acid. Soapstone, however, outperforms marble on this measure. Marble
sometimes stains. Soapstone doesn't since it is non-porous.
Seams can
be worked so tightly as to make them almost invisible.
Scratches
in soapstone can be easily removed with fine sandpaper. This is
not true of other stones used in sinks and countertops.
More than
granite, soapstone is extremely durable; hence we at Green Mountain.
Soapstone is able to offer a 100% lifetime guarantee on all of our
soapstone products.
Soapstone
is an especially good choice for fireboxes, hearths, and fireplace
trims. Soapstone absorbs the heat of a roaring fire quickly and
then releases it slowly over the course of hours. Fireboxes made
from soapstone can be 300% more efficient than fireboxes made from
other materials.
The
soapstone we select for your kitchen or bath must not only have
the exquisite natural beauty you have come to expect from Soapstone,
but must also excel in performance once it is in place in your home.
We look for soapstone with the finest structural integrity needed
for your use, from a predictable and dependable source. Only soapstone
that meets all these criteria can earn the right to be called Soapstone.
